The run is back
The Diabetes Awareness Run returns to Guam on Saturday, November 28, 2026, at Chamoru Village. After a year off, it is back with a new look and the same reason behind it.
What is new for 2026
- A sunset start. The run goes off in the early evening as the light turns gold, and finishes under the village lights. The confirmed show and start times will be posted on the Run page.
- The theme is Sight in Motion, Protect Your Eyes. Diabetes is a leading cause of vision loss, and much of it is preventable. Why diabetes eye exams matter.
- Free health screening for everyone, runner or not.
- Two named beneficiaries. The event supports Guam Diabetes Association and Famagu’on Fishing Camp: Future Generation Anglers. Run 4 Awareness Guam is organized by Reef Pursuit International Inc.
- Run, walk, or wheel. Both the 2K and the 5K are run or walk. Strollers and wheelchairs welcome.
Why it went quiet, and why it is back
The original Diabetes Awareness 5K was run for 14 years by Carl Butler, a Vietnam veteran who led the Guam Diabetes Association for two decades. After he stepped back it went dormant for close to a decade. The community brought it back in 2023. The legacy of Carl’s run continued. 2025 did not happen. 2026 does.
