Carl was a Vietnam veteran. He was active in the Jaycees, becoming Guam National President and a JCI Senator. He was instrumental in activating the Guam Diabetes Association and served as its president for 20 years. Those who knew him describe a generous, kind man with a heart of gold and a welcoming smile.
He ran the island’s Diabetes Awareness 5K for 14 years. After he stepped back, the run went quiet for close to a decade.
Why we keep running it
In 2023 the community brought the run back. Carl’s family, and Miss Winnie in particular, welcomed it. What he built keeps going: the legacy of his run continues, carried forward by an island that does not want to see it end.
One journey. One island. One purpose. Stronger together.
